Quick answer: A name change service in Punjab prepares your affidavit, newspaper ads and Central Gazette file, then helps you update Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank and other records in the right order. You sign and post the gazette file yourself, because agents are barred. Our fee starts at Rs 999. The government fee of Rs 1,100 is separate.

A name change service is a private documentation helper. It does the paperwork and the checking, so your file is not returned and your records match. It does not replace the government, and it cannot publish the gazette for you.

This page lists every document we help with, from the gazette to Aadhaar, PAN, certificates, land and work records. It also shows which route each case needs, what it costs, what we do and what only you can do. For the legal steps in order, read the name change procedure in Punjab on our homepage.

What Does a Name Change Service in Punjab Do?

A good service takes the work that causes most rejections and does it carefully. The Department of Publication checks every gazette file page by page. A wrong spelling, a signature in the wrong name or an old document sends the file back, and you lose weeks. After the gazette, every office you update checks your name against the one before it. We exist to stop both problems.

Our Part: What We Prepare

We start with a call. We ask why you are changing your name and how your name is spelled on your Aadhaar, PAN, school and bank records. We then draft your name change affidavit and the newspaper notice, and we show you the wording before anything is printed. On the Complete package we also arrange the newspaper ads. We check your whole gazette file page by page and give you a checklist for signing and posting. After the gazette comes out, we guide each record update in order.

Your Part: What Only You Can Do

You sign the affidavit before a notary. Your two witnesses sign the typed proforma, and they sign in your old name. You pay the government fee yourself on bharatkosh.gov.in. You then post the file to the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054, in your own name. The department does not accept applications from agents, so this part cannot be done for you. Anyone who says otherwise is not telling you the truth.

Name Change Services in Punjab, Document by Document

Almost nobody needs just one item from this list. You have a situation, and each situation touches several documents. Find your document below, then read the route and sequence sections that follow.

Gazette and Name Change Services in Punjab

For a new name, or for a change that needs a published record behind it.

📜

Gazette Name Change in Punjab

The Central Gazette route, filed with the Department of Publication in Delhi. Accepted at every passport office and in every state.

✍️

Name Change Affidavit and Newspaper Notice

The notarised affidavit and the two newspaper notices that must match it word for word, made before the gazette file.

💍

Name Change After Marriage

A married surname across Aadhaar, PAN, bank and passport. Often the marriage certificate is enough and no gazette is needed.

📜

Name Change After Divorce

Going back to your maiden name, or taking a new name, after a divorce decree or a spouse's death.

👤

Singh, Kaur and Surname Change

Adding, dropping or changing Singh, Kaur or any surname, with the gazette record that links the old name to the new one.

👪

Minor and Child Name Change

For anyone under 18. A parent or the legal guardian applies, and the government fee is Rs 1,700.

✈️

Name Change for Punjabis Abroad

The government fee is Rs 3,500 and the file still goes by post in your own name. Call us before you make the affidavit.

📰

Public Notice for a Wrongly Written Name

When a wrong spelling has spread to other papers. Ask us if your case needs a public notice gazette, which has its own fee of Rs 1,350.

Identity Document Name Change in Punjab: Aadhaar, PAN, Passport and More

The records every other office checks your name against.

💳

Name Change in Aadhaar Card

Updated at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra with the gazette or the right supporting document. A name change is allowed only twice in a lifetime.

📄

Name Change in PAN Card

The PAN number never changes. The name is corrected as an update, best done after Aadhaar already shows the new name.

📕

Name Change in Passport

A passport is never edited. A name change means a re-issue with a new passport number, and visas do not transfer.

🗳️

Name Change in Voter ID

Correct the name on the electoral roll through Form 8. The Election Commission charges nothing for it.

🚗

Name Change in Driving Licence

Update the name on your licence and vehicle records with the transport office that issued them.

🍛

Name Change in Ration Card

Correct the name in the family ration card through the food and civil supplies office.

📝

Name Correction in Death Certificate

Fixing a wrong name on a family member's death certificate, often needed for a pension, a claim or a land transfer. It goes to the Registrar, not the gazette.

💒

Name Correction in Marriage Certificate

A wrong spelling in a registered marriage certificate, which passport and bank offices use as proof. We tell you the right office first.

Certificate, School and Education Record Name Change in Punjab

State certificates, school boards and the records that follow you into every form.

👶

Name in Birth Certificate

A Registrar correction under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, through a Sewa Kendra or by post. Not a gazette matter.

📋

Caste, SC, BC and EWS Certificates

A wrong name on a category certificate is corrected by the office that issued it, with an ID and a school record showing the right spelling.

🎓

PSEB Class 10 and 12 Certificates

The Punjab School Education Board issued them, so the board corrects them, usually through your school. Where the name itself changed, a gazette is often asked for.

📚

CBSE, ICSE and Other Board Certificates

A certificate from another board or state is corrected by that board, not by PSEB and not by us.

🏫

University and College Records

Degrees, marksheets and enrolment records in the right name. Ask in writing which document the university wants.

🎫

School Leaving Certificate

The school record that many other papers copy from. Fix it first when it carries the wrong name.

🛂

Name Change for Visa and Study Abroad

Your name on the application must match your passport letter by letter. Fix mismatches before you apply, not at the visa desk.

🏥

Pension and Scheme Records

Names in pension, scholarship and welfare scheme records, which are checked against Aadhaar.

Bank, Property, Land and Work Record Name Change in Punjab

Banks, insurance, land and the jobs that check every document twice.

🏦

Name in Bank Records

Account, passbook and cheque book in the new name. A branch visit is needed for signature checks, so do it after Aadhaar and PAN.

🛡️

Name in LIC and Insurance

Policy records updated before a claim or maturity, not after the payment is stuck.

📈

Shares, Mutual Funds and Demat

Demat accounts and mutual fund folios in the corrected name, matched to your PAN.

🧾

Income Tax Name Mismatch

When the e-filing portal and your PAN or Aadhaar show different names.

🏠

Name in Property Documents

Sale deeds and property papers where the name differs from your current documents.

🏞️

Land Records (Jamabandi and Fard)

Revenue records in the right name, handled through the tehsil. We tell you what the office wants before you go.

🏛️

Central Government Employees

Under the MHA order of 12 March 1987: a deed attested by a gazetted officer, a newspaper notice, the Gazette of India and a service book entry.

🔍

Recruitment Document Verification

When two names on your papers belong to you, and an office only needs a sworn statement that they are one person.

Each card above becomes its own guide as that page goes live on this site. Until then, call or message us and we tell you the route for that document.

Which Route Does Your Name Change Case Need in Punjab?

Not every name change goes through the gazette. Find your situation below and see the office that actually fixes it. If your case does not fit, send your old document and the spelling you want on WhatsApp. We tell you the route before you spend anything, even when the route does not involve us.

Your situationCorrect routeUsual proof

Punjab offices differ in the papers they accept, and counters change their rules. Treat this table as the usual route, and let us confirm it for your case before you pay for anything.

Which Gazette Do Punjab Residents Use?

Punjab residents use the Central Gazette, the Gazette of India, Part IV, published weekly on Saturday by the Department of Publication, Civil Lines, Delhi 110054. The fee is paid only on BharatKosh, and publication takes 30 to 45 days after the file reaches Delhi. Punjab also has its own Punjab Government Gazette, published through the Controller of Printing and Stationery. We found no published citizen procedure, form or fee for a personal name change in it, so we file the Central Gazette. Read the full comparison on the homepage.

Name Change Sequence in Punjab: Which Documents to Update First

Each step is the proof for the next one, so the order matters. Offices check your name against Aadhaar, and the usual order after a gazette is Aadhaar, then PAN, then passport, then bank, then everything else.

Your situationThe chain, in orderWhat people get wrong
Married, taking a new surnameMarriage certificate, then Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bankBuying a gazette first. For a married surname most offices want the marriage certificate.
Divorced, going back to a maiden nameDivorce decree, then Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bankThinking the decree changes the name by itself. It is only the proof.
A new name by choiceAffidavit, newspaper notice, gazette, then Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank, certificatesUpdating one document and stopping. A half done chain causes most later problems.
One or two letters spelt wrongStraight to the office that made the mistake, with an ID showing the right spellingPaying for a gazette that a spelling fix never needed.
Gurmukhi and English spellings differChoose one English spelling, then bring every record to it, Aadhaar firstCorrecting the record that looks easiest, not the one others check against.
Wrong name in a child's birth certificateRegistrar correction, then school record, then AadhaarGoing to the gazette. A birth certificate error is a Registrar matter.
Applying abroad or joining the army or a Government job soonFix Aadhaar and the Class 10 certificate first, then every other paperWaiting for the verification date to find the mismatch.

Why Aadhaar sits early in every chain: PAN, banks and most other offices check your name against Aadhaar. But Aadhaar allows a name change only twice in a lifetime. Settle the exact spelling, letter by letter, before you file the first request.

Government fees are paid directly to the government. Stamp paper, notary charges and newspaper ads depend on your city and the papers you choose, and we share them before you pay.

Illustrative total: An adult on the Complete package pays Rs 1,999 to us and Rs 1,100 to the government. That is Rs 3,099 before stamp paper, notary and newspaper charges. Each alias name adds Rs 250 to the government fee. This is an example to show how the numbers add up, not a quote for your case.

Name Change Costs in Punjab, Separated Honestly

Two things are worth saying plainly. A published gazette PDF is free to download from egazette.gov.in, so nobody should charge you to "retrieve" your own notification. And a clean, simple case can be done without us. Our charge is worth it on the hard cases: names that differ across documents, a file already returned, or an office asking for something unusual.

Name Change Service in Punjab: Facts Other Websites Get Wrong

We read the top ranking pages for name change services in Punjab before writing this one. These are the mistakes we found, corrected against government sources and our own filing experience.

How to Choose a Name Change Agent or Service in Punjab

Nobody can rank providers fairly for you, so use a checklist instead. The same questions work on us and on every other service in Punjab.

Questions to Ask Before You Pay

Red Flags That Mean Walk Away

What Happens After You Book Our Name Change Service

This is our own working order. The legal steps themselves are on the homepage, so we do not repeat them here.

Same working dayWe call you back, ask your reason and spelling, and tell you the route and the documents you need
Day 1 to 2You send scans on WhatsApp or email, and we check your spelling across every document
Day 2 to 5We draft the affidavit and newspaper notice, and you approve the wording
Day 5 to 9We hand you a checked file and a signing checklist, and you post it to Delhi in your own name
Day 30 to 45 after postingYour notification is published, and we help you download it from egazette.gov.in
After the gazetteWe guide Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank and the rest in the order each office checks the one before

Total: about 45 to 60 days for the gazette, and extra weeks for the record updates that follow. The department sets the publication date, not us or any other agent.

When You Do Not Need a Name Change Service in Punjab

We would rather tell you this now than take a fee for something you did not need. You can do the whole gazette yourself. The government fee is Rs 1,100 for an adult, and nothing stops you from preparing the file at home. A service saves time and prevents mistakes, but the law does not require one.

Where Our Help Earns Its Fee

You can also read when you do not need a gazette name change on our homepage before you spend anything.

What Happens If a Name Change Application Is Rejected in Punjab?

This is what people most want to know before they pay, so here it is, office by office. In every case, ask for the reason in writing before you apply again.

Gazette application. Most returned files are fixable: a spelling that does not match, an unsigned proforma, or a cutting sent instead of the full newspaper page. Correct the file and send it again. Treat the government fee as non-refundable, which is why we check everything first.

Aadhaar. Find the exact reason before you try again. Only two name changes are allowed in a lifetime, so a careless request can cost you one.

PAN. It is almost always a mismatch with Aadhaar. Fix Aadhaar first, then apply again. Re-applying against an unchanged Aadhaar gets the same refusal.

Voter ID. Check whether it was a simple rejection or an order. An order can be challenged, and a time limit may apply, so read it before you file again.

Birth certificate. A Registrar refusal has its own route under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act. Ask before you act, because the right next step depends on why it was refused.

PSEB or a university. It is usually a missing paper, not a refusal on merit. Ask in writing which document they want. That one question settles most of these cases.

Districts We Cover Across Punjab

Every service on this page runs on phone, WhatsApp and post, so we help people from all 23 districts, in Majha, Malwa and Doaba, and Punjabi families living elsewhere. The gazette file goes to Delhi by post, so your district does not change the process. Chandigarh is a Union Territory, not part of Punjab. The same Central Gazette route applies there, and our Mohali office is next door.

Name Change Service in Punjab: Frequently Asked Questions

What does a name change service in Punjab do?

A name change service in Punjab prepares your affidavit, newspaper notice and Central Gazette file, checks every page, and guides you until the notification is published. It cannot submit the file for you. You sign it and post it to the Department of Publication in Delhi in your own name.

How much does a name change service charge in Punjab?

Our service fee is Rs 999 for Basic and Rs 1,999 for Complete. The government fee is separate: Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor and Rs 3,500 for Indians abroad. Stamp paper, notary and newspaper charges depend on your city and are quoted before you pay.

What do I do myself and what do you do?

We draft and check the papers, and you sign, pay and post. You sign the affidavit before a notary, your witnesses sign the proforma in your old name, you pay on BharatKosh, and you post the file to Delhi. We prepare the affidavit, the notice wording, the file and the checklist.

Can an agent submit my gazette name change application for me?

No. The Department of Publication bars agents from submitting applications. The file goes by post in your own name. Anyone who says they will submit it for you is giving you wrong information, and you should ask them to show the rule in writing.

Do I need a gazette for every name change in Punjab?

No. A gazette is for a genuinely new name. A spelling fix, a married surname and a birth certificate error often need a different office. We check your case first, so you do not pay for a gazette you never needed.

Which service do I need if I just got married?

Probably fewer than you think. Start with the registered marriage certificate as proof, then update Aadhaar, PAN, passport and bank in that order. A gazette is often not part of a married surname change. We also file gazettes, so weigh that as you read this.

Who corrects my PSEB Class 10 or 12 certificate?

The Punjab School Education Board, because it issued the certificate. The request usually goes through your school. Where your name itself changed rather than a clerical mistake, a gazette is often asked for as proof. Certificates from CBSE, ICSE or other boards go to those boards.

My name is spelt differently in Gurmukhi and English records. What should I do?

Choose one English spelling and bring every record to it, starting with Aadhaar. Where two spellings cannot be linked by a supporting document, a one and the same person affidavit or a gazette links them. We check which one your case needs.

Is a birth certificate mistake a gazette matter in Punjab?

No. A birth certificate correction goes to the District Registrar of Births and Deaths under Section 15 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. You can submit the Punjab form at a Sewa Kendra or by post. A gazette does not fix it by itself.

How long does a name change take through your service?

Publication takes 30 to 45 days after the file reaches Delhi, and the whole process takes about 45 to 60 days. Preparing the affidavit, ads and file takes about a week. The department sets the publication date, so no service can shorten it.

Do I need to visit your Mohali office?

No. We work by phone, WhatsApp, email and post, and we serve all 23 districts of Punjab. You send scans of your documents, we check them, and the final file reaches you by courier or you collect it. No trip to any gazette office is needed.

Do I need a court order or a lawyer for name change in Punjab?

No. For an ordinary adult name change on the gazette route you need an affidavit, two newspaper notices and the Central Gazette file. A court is not involved. Be careful with anyone who sells court representation for a routine name change.

Is any name change agent in Punjab government approved?

No. There is no government approval or licence for name change agents. The Department of Publication decides every file on its own. Any provider that claims government approval or 100 percent approval is making a promise it cannot keep.

What is the difference between the government fee and your service fee?

The government fee goes to the government through BharatKosh, and our service fee pays for our preparation and checking work. They are two separate payments. You pay the government fee yourself, and it is Rs 1,100 for an adult.

How do I choose the best name change service in Punjab?

Pick the provider that shows its full price, lists what is included, and says plainly that you post the file yourself. Ask for a written breakdown, check that the office address is real, and avoid anyone who promises approval, a fast track or government status.

Can I do a name change in Punjab myself without a service?

Yes. The government fee is Rs 1,100 for an adult, and you can prepare the file at home. A service saves time and helps avoid a returned file, but the law does not require one. Our homepage explains every step if you want to do it yourself.

Can Punjabis living abroad use your service?

Yes. The government fee for Indians abroad is Rs 3,500, and the file still goes to the Department of Publication by post in your own name. Call us before you make the affidavit, because the way it is attested depends on the country you live in.

Is the government fee refundable if my file is returned?

Treat the government fee as non-refundable. It is paid to the government, not to us, and we cannot refund it. That is why we check your file page by page before you pay. Ask us for our own service terms in writing before you book.

Do you charge for telling me which route I need?

No. Send us your situation and we tell you the route, including when it does not involve us at all. You pay only if you decide to book a package.

Are you a government office or a law firm?

No. We are a private documentation consultancy. We prepare your papers and guide you, but the gazette is published only by the Department of Publication. We do not give court advice, and we tell you honestly when you do not need our service.

The Short Version: Name Change Service in Punjab

A name change service in Punjab prepares your affidavit, newspaper ads and Central Gazette file, checks it page by page, and guides every record update after the gazette. You still sign, pay the government fee on BharatKosh and post the file to Delhi in your own name, because agents are barred. Our fee is Rs 999 for Basic and Rs 1,999 for Complete. The government fee is separate: Rs 1,100 for an adult, Rs 1,700 for a minor and Rs 3,500 abroad. Publication takes 30 to 45 days after the file reaches Delhi. Update Aadhaar first, then PAN, passport and bank. No agent is government approved, and nobody can promise approval or a fast track. A married surname, a spelling fix or a birth certificate error may need no gazette at all. Call 9540005064.
